Audiology Services

The Gebbie Clinic offers the following Audiology Services.

We currently participate with Medicare (Non-Supplemental), POMCO, and NYS Employees Empire Plan. Anyone is welcome to come to the Gebbie Clinic for services; however, if you are not insured with one of these companies, payment is the client's responsibility.

Diagnostic Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) testing is available for threshold determination in patients that cannot complete routine behavioral hearing testing. Candidates for ABR testing include newborns, young children, and individuals with developmental delays. The Gebbie Clinic works closely with local agencies and is an approved location for diagnostic ABR follow-up testing for infants and young children with suspected hearing loss.

Gebbie Clinic, in conjunction with Neonatal Associates of CNY, provide follow-up newborn screening services for Crouse Hospital.  Otoacoustic Emission (OAE) screenings are conducted for those infants not passing their initial OAE screening prior to discharge from the well-baby nursery.  Recommendations for diagnostic hearing evaluations are made for those babies not passing the re-screen, and referrals to Early Intervention and/or the baby’s primary care physician are made to facilitate this evaluation.

The Gebbie Clinic administers (Central) Auditory Processing Evaluations (C)APD to children that are 7-12 years of age. (C)APD refers to the effectiveness by which the central nervous system uses auditory information. (C)APD can often lead to both language and academic difficulties supporting the need for early identification and treatment. We require a speech/language evaluation and a psychological evaluation prior to the appointment.

The Gebbie Hearing Clinic can also recommend and dispense FM systems for hearing impaired children and adults. FM systems are used to help children and adults hear in noisy settings such as classrooms, theaters, places of worship, public meeting places, office conference rooms, and other large areas for gathering. The Gebbie Hearing Clinic dispenses a complete line of hearing aids. All sizes are available ranging from completely in the canal to behind the ear. We offer the latest in digital technologies. In addition to the hearing aids, we also offer a comprehensive selection of assistive devices and blue tooth connectivity options. After the hearing evaluation is completed, it is determined if the client is a candidate for amplification. If they are, a hearing aid consultation is scheduled. This is a one and a half hour appointment during which the client is educated about hearing aids. All options are discussed and questions are answered. There is no obligation to purchase an aid.

The Gebbie Speech, Language & Hearing Clinics offers Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT) for people who are affected by tinnitus. Tinnitus is characterized by chronic ringing, buzzing, humming, or a hissing sound heard in the head or ears. The TRT program will help people learn how to manage their body’s reaction to tinnitus and suppress their perception of the sound through counseling and sound therapy.
